Willow Oak is a smaller type of leaf litter available through Josh's Frogs! Great as a sole leaf litter, Willow Oak leaves look even better when mixed with either Sea Grape or Magnolia leaves in a naturalistic vivarium.
Willow Oak leaves break down just a bit faster than some other species of leaf litter, and seem to lead to an increased abundance of isopods and springtails when used in a naturalistic vivarium. These leaves can be used in any vivaria, but will hold up longer in an arid environment.
Leaf litter performs a very important role in a naturalistic vivarium. It provides shelter, visual barriers, and hiding places for the vivarium inhabitants, such as poison dart frogs.
Mimicking the role of dead plant matter in the rainforest, leaf litter also puts nutrients back into the environment, providing the stuff plants and microfauna need to thrive! Josh's Frogs Leaf Litter is collected from a pesticide and herbicide free environment.
One gallon of leaf litter will cover approximately 1.5 square feet to the desired depth of 1 inch.
Although our leaves are collected in a pesticide and herbicide free environment, many choose to further treat vivarium decor. Leaves can be baked to a temperature of 140 degrees F, eliminating potential harmful organisms.
