These are European Nightcrawlers (Eisenia hortensis), which are slightly smaller than our other Canadian variety. While mature Canadian Nightcrawlers can average between 3.5-6 inches, European nightcrawlers average between 4-5 inches when mature, but at time of sale average 1.5-2.25 inches.
Nightcrawlers are a nutritious snack for your pet reptiles or amphibians! A wide range of exotics love nightcrawlers, especially aquatic and box turtles, newts, salamanders, and Pac-Man frogs.
We sell 25 nightcrawlers (plus an overcount) in a 16 oz. container. European nightcrawlers do not need to be stored in the fridge, and can tolerate a much wider range of temperatures than Canadian nightcrawlers. This makes these worms much better suited for summer shipping in many cases.
While they're tolerant of temperatures between 38-90°F, the temperature range where they are happiest is between 60-70°. These worms can keep for 2-3 weeks without feeding if kept at cooler temperatures, however to extend their shelf life—especially if kept at room temperature—we suggest giving them a supplemental food source.
We also offer a worm food that can be used for gutloading or as a boost for colony growth!
