Defining Characteristics:

• Very popular and hardy aquatic fern
• Long, narrow, bright to dark green fronds that grow from a thick rhizome
• Should be attached to a hardscape like driftwood or rocks

Tank Position: Midground or attached to hardscape anywhere in the tank.

Growing Conditions: Submerged. It is critical to note that the rhizome should not be buried in the substrate. Instead, it should be attached to a rock or driftwood using plant glue, thread, or by wedging it into a crevice.

Temperature Requirement (°F): 68 - 82°

Lighting: Low to Moderate. This plant does not require high light and can even be sensitive to it, which can cause black spots on the leaves.

Water pH: 6.0 - 7.5

CO₂ Requirements: Low. CO₂ is not necessary for this plant to thrive.

Care Notes: This plant is very easy to care for and is a great option for beginners. It is a good "filler" plant due to its fast growth rate. To propagate, simply cut a stem and replant it in the substrate. It's an excellent plant for absorbing excess nitrates from the water, which can help with algae control. It pairs well with shorter, foreground plants like Dwarf Sagittaria or Cryptocoryne species.
