Asarum splendens ‘Quicksilver’, also known as Chinese Wild Ginger due to its spicy, aromatic roots, is a great ground cover plant with unique foliage. This member of the ginger family has dark-green, arrow shaped leaves with attractive patterns of light silver striations. It gets about 6” high and can quickly spread via underground rhizomes to create a nice ground cover. It prefers shaded areas with constantly moist soil. It tends to dry to quickly in direct sun and seems to require heavy watering.

Container Gardens/Terrariums/Houseplant:

With its attractive foliage, this plant would do great in a terrarium, as it does not grow too large and can easily be kept from spreading too much.

Due to its love of moisture, this plant will do great in a vivarium, although it would prefer a more shaded area within it. It’s broad growing leaves provide shade and shelter for small creatures like dart frogs to take cover under.
