Nephrolepis exaltata - True Boston Fern is a very popular plant mostly grown indoors. It is native to Florida, Mexico, Central and South America. This fern can be moved to the outdoors when temperatures stay above 65 degrees and should be kept in indirect light. Nephrolepis exaltata - True Boston Fern prefers moist, well drained soil and humid conditions. Indoors, this fern would do well in a bathroom or kitchen where humidity levels are higher. A tray of gravel placed under the plant and kept full of water would also give this plant the humidity it so loves. Nephrolepis exaltata - True Boston Fern has dark green fronds and can reach a size of 3' high to 3' wide. This plant does extremely well in hanging baskets.

USDA Hardiness Zones 10-12

Container Gardens/Terrariums/Houseplants:

Because of its large size, True Boston Fern is not recommended for terrariums or container gardens. Easy care and low light needs makes this fern attractive to indoor gardeners. The lush, thick foliage is definately an eye stopper. Pruning can easily be done to keep it a desirable size.

Vivariums/Animal Terrariums:

Nephrolepis exaltata - True Boston Fern will do well in only the largest of vivariums and thrive in the moist, humid environment. Plant toward the back in a location that is not saturated.

As good practice, Josh's Frogs recommends washing all plants thoroughly removing as much soil as possible with dechlorinated water before placing them in their final home.
