(2)Native to Brazil, Neoregelia smithii is a bromeliad suitable for any size vivaria, and will form a rosette 4-6" across. Neoregelia smithii holds a decent amount of water, making it ideal for tadpole rearing.
Neoregelia smithii is an epiphyte in nature, and can grow attached to the background or hardscape in a naturalistic vivarium, or be planted in very well draining substrate. Neoregelia smithii should be planted on the background on in the back area of a vivarium.
Neoregelia smithii has moderate water needs, and should not have standing water on it's leaves. Water in the cup of the bromeliad should be flushed at least once a week.Neoregelia smithii has moderate to high light needs - under more intense light, Neoregelia smithii will display brighter colors. Neoregelia smithii is a slow grower, and will form clumps consisting of the mother plant surrounded by pups, or younger plants that grow off of the mother plant. Neoregelia smithii appreciates air circulation, but it is not necessary if the plant is allowed to dry out slightly between waterings. In a vivarium, Neoregelia smithii makes a great bromeliad for poison dart frogs to lay eggs on and deposit tadpoles in.

Got one of these in my most recent shipment. They had great color and looked very healthy when I opened the package. They rooted up very nicely and are already taking off.
