Josh's Frogs

Long Fiber Sphagnum

Long Fiber Sphagnum Moss lasts a long time in the vivarium, and has natural anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. It is placed between the substrate and leaf litter layers in a vivarium to prevent the substrate from adhering to the frogs, and to increase the suitable environment for microfauna. The Long Fiber Sphagnum Moss sold by Josh's Frogs comes in an compressed brick and will need to be expanded in water previous to use. Long Fiber Sphagnum Moss also makes a great substrate for temporary or quarantine tanks for dart frogs, as well as rearing bins for young froglets.

Long Fiber Sphagnum Moss also has a long history in horticulture. Long Fiber Sphagnum Moss makes a great growing medium for many plants, including carnivous plants and various plant cuttings. Also sometimes called orchid moss, Long Fiber Sphagnum Moss is great for use with a variety of epiphytic plants, including orchids, bromeliads, and many more. Long Fiber Sphagnum Moss excels at absorbing and retaining moisture, and has a wide range of uses when growing or propagating plants.

There are 2 varieties of Long Fiber Sphagnum Moss available on the market: Chilean and New Zealand Long Fiber Sphagnum Moss. Both are suitable for use with both plants and animals. Generally, New Zealand Long Fiber Sphagnum Moss is considered cleaner, softer, and a higher quality product than Chilean Long Fiber Sphagnum Moss. New Zealand Sphagnum Moss is also lighter in color, and tends to have longer fibers than Chilean Sphagnum Moss. Chilean Long Fiber Sphagnum Moss is in short supply as of late, due to increased demand overseas. Josh's Frogs is fortunate to still be able to acquire some of the less expensive Chilean Long Fiber Sphagnum Moss, as well as offer New Zealand Long Fiber Sphagnum Moss at everyday low prices.
