Dubia roaches are a great feeder insect for many pet reptiles and amphibians that prefer larger prey items. Best of all, they are easily and economically bred providing a virtually unlimited food source for your pets! Here's how to breed dubia roaches with the Josh's Frogs Dubia Roach Breeding Kit.
The Josh's Frogs Dubia Roach Breeding Kit contains 15 egg flats, a brick of coconut fiber, 10 male and 25 female adult roaches, as well as 100 - 1/2-3/4 inch dubia. Adult dubias will breed right off the bat, and some females will be carrying offspring already! The smaller roaches will mature and breed over the next 6 months, ensuring you don't have a gap in production when your adults die off from old age.
In addition to the kit, you'll want to get a large Sterilite tub or an equivalent bin, such as a 56 quart container. The smooth sides of the clear containers ensure your roaches don't climb out!

Hydrate the coconut fiber brick in reverse osmosis or distilled water, then squeeze out any excess until water does not run out. Place all the substrate in the container, then add the egg crates, making sure to alternate the way they are stacked. Many customers prefer to add springtails or isopods to the substrate to help keep the dubia colony clean.
Food then needs to be added to the enclosure. We've found that using a paper plate to put food on keeps the substrate cleaner, until the roaches have bred and the population has grown. Feed Josh's Frogs Roach Rations along with fresh fruits and vegetables—table scraps are great! At Josh's Frogs, we've had the best luck with oranges and bananas. Dump in the roaches, and you're all set!

For best results, mist daily and aim for about 60% humidity and a temperature in the low-mid 80s. If you have a small child or cat at home, you may want to cut numerous small holes in the lid. Otherwise, the lid can be left off. You'll begin to see baby roaches quickly.
Josh’s Frogs has the proper USDA permits in place to legally ship dubia roaches across state lines. We’ve done the legwork and can ship dubia roaches to all US states, except for Florida, California, Louisiana, Alabama, and Hawaii. As long as you do not live in one of those states, you can legally order and receive dubia roaches from Josh’s Frogs. A copy of the relevant permits is available via email upon ordering.
