About This Product

Hoya carnosa f. compacta ‘Krinkle Kurl’ is an extremely unique plant with thick, curly-leaved, non-climbing green vines.  The thickness of their vines has earned it the common name Hindu Rope Plant.  This waxy leaved plant is actually a type of flowering succulent native to Southern India.  This plant’s 200-year popularity as a houseplant is due to its ease of care, very unique appearance, and sweet smelling attractive and geometrical blooms.  Being a member of the Milkweed family, it produces blooms in Spring and Summer consisting of clusters of many small, star-shaped flowers that tend to produce large amounts of nectar.  In suitable temperatures, this plant can be grown outdoors where its nectar will attract beneficial wildlife, such as honeybees and butterflies.  The deep pink blooms are so perfect in shape and form that many people unfamiliar with the plant may be surprised to find out it is indeed a real plant at first glance.  For better bloom production, it is recommended to keep this plant a bit rootbound.  Many hobbyists consider this plant to be one of the easiest indoor plants to care for.  Simply plant it in a well draining succulent soil with adequate drainage at the bottom of the container and water it about once per week or when the soil is almost dry.  The Hindu Rope Plant is considered a slow grower and may take a few years to develop its blooms.  It is important to not remove the leafless “spurs” that grow at the end of the rope vines.  Although not as attractive as the rest of the plant, these spurs are where the blooms will form.  Matured rope vines can reach about 1.5-2” wide and can potentially reach up to 20 feet long, but this would take a very long time.

Container Gardens/Terrariums/Houseplant:

This plant can do well in most container gardens with good drainage.  It can be removed in due time if it reaches too large of a size.  Its trailing growth habit makes it an excellent choice for a hanging basket outdoors or on a patio.  The Hindu Rope Plant is an excellent houseplant that is very easy to care for and forgiving.

Josh's Frogs offers a wide variety of glass terrariums, container garden soils, drainage layers and other supplies for all of your indoor gardening needs.

Vivariums/Animal Terrariums:

Being a succulent preferring well-draining soil on the more dry side of the spectrum, this plant is not recommended for vivariums.

As good practice, Josh's Frogs recommends washing all plants thoroughly removing as much soil as possible with dechlorinated water before placing them in their final home. Plants from Josh’s Frogs are specifically grown to be safe for use with animals. Live plants may vary in color, size and appearance.

The plant pictured is in a 4" pot.
